Sample some excellent, homemade, tasty food at The Oak Tree Inn. Recent winner of SLTN's Gastropub of the year, The Oak Tree Inn is based in the beautiful lochside village of Balmaha, and is the perfect venue for a delicious pub lunch, followed by a leisurely stroll by the banks of Loch Lomond. For breath-taking views of the loch and its islands, you can also climb Conic Hill, setting off directly across the road from The Oak Tree Inn.

New Year’s Eve Traditions In Scotland
Many of Scotland’s seasonal customs at Christmas and Hogmanay are traditional in the truest sense. Not only are they very old, but they are, in the main, rather unorthodox. First-footing describes the arrival of your first guest on New Year’s Day. A tall, dark male bearing various gifts is said to bring the most good fortune to a house; fair-haired males and females are traditionally considered unlucky. Take the long-standing custom of fireball swinging in Stonehaven, the transformation of Kirkwall into a football-related battlefield, or the aptly-titled Loony Dook in the Firth of Forth (which, to be fair, isn’t actually that old, having only been set up in 1987): odd rituals such as these reveal an abundance of the sort of festive spirit that can make Hogmanay in Scotland for visitors and locals alike so enjoyable be it on Loch Lomond or around the country.

Tasting Tour of Scotch Whiskies
For those who like to find out more about Scotland’s whiskies, The Oak Tree offers a whisky tasting tour of Scotland’s regions, hosted by their resident whisky expert, that will help you find the perfect whisky for you as well as help you understand the distinct flavours of the different regions – from the peaty Islay whiskies to the soft and smooth lowland whiskies.
The Tasting Tour of Scotch Whisky costs £25 per person and is available for groups ranging in size from eight to thirty. The tasting will take around one hour and can be booked by contacting reception@theoaktreeinn.co.uk.
