Cardross
With extensive views across the Clyde and northward to the big hills, Cardross's story goes as far back as the days of King Robert the Bruce. Today, though it is better known for its pleasant location, golf course and lovely garden at Geilston House. There's a nature trail round Ardmore Point - so you can brush up on your wading birds. (Of course you know what an oystercatcher looks like. And, yes, that is a shipwreck just offshore.)
