Wood Leisure (formerly known as Holiday Parks), a local family business from Perthshire, beat off some stiff competition last Friday night (27th November) and were crowned Family Business of the Year at the Courier Business Awards held in Fairmont, St Andrews. The ever strong competition included fantastic entries from both Strathmore Foods Ltd and Stuart's of Buckhaven.
The Wood family took to the stage to collect their prize from Thornton’s Solicitors and the Apprentices’ Nick Hewer (header photo shows, from Left to Right; Sarah, Margaret, Colin, Kirsty and Rachel Wood, Lesley Larg of Thornton’s & Nick Hewer).
Sarah Wood MacGregor, Marketing and Sales Manager of Wood Leisure Holiday Parks said: “We are absolutely ecstatic to have won the Family Business of the Year Award. We want to thank our wonderful team and of course our loyal customers, we are over the moon to be taking home this prize.”
The family started the business over 30 years ago when parents Colin & Margaret purchased Blairgowrie Holiday Park in 1981. With the foresight to develop a top quality, all year round holiday business, they invested heavily in the park. The Woods then extended their portfolio with the purchases of further sites including; Lomond Woods Holiday Park, Loch Lomond in 1994, Corriefodly Holiday Park, Perthshire in 2000, Deeside Holiday Park, Aberdeenshire in 2008 and finally Balgair Castle Holiday Park, Stirlingshire in 2010.
Colin and Margaret’s children were inspired and motivated by their parents over the years and eagerly, one by one all followed in their footsteps and joined the family business. Colin and Margaret together with their three daughters; Kirsty, Rachel and Sarah have enthusiastically developed the business whilst ensuring foundations have been established for the success of the family business now and in the future. The five parks definitely exude family spirit with two of the three sisters’ husbands also having senior management roles in the business. Wood Leisure Holiday Parks can also boast that they have a few other families that work within their enthusiastic team, promoting their well-established family values and giving the parks a real sense of a true wholesome family environment.
The family strong business are now undergoing a re-brand to bring the brand ‘Wood Leisure’ to the forefront of the luxury, Holiday Park sector. The re-brand takes Wood Leisure away from their former ‘Holiday Park’ name to more accurately represent the true values and beliefs of the business, aligning themselves with their mission and vision. The new ‘Wood Leisure’ logo, which features a tree, gives reference to the family name and also to mother nature, the tree itself combines a scripted ‘W’ emphasising the family’s deep rooted commitment to quality and growth.
The successfully run Wood Leisure Holiday Parks offer self-catering accommodation ranging from trendy ‘glamping’ pods to deluxe lodges with private hot tubs, all achieving top ratings from Visit Scotland.
Wood Leisure offer holiday choices for all the family from those seeking activity and adventure to those choosing to relax in beautiful picturesque settings.
