Mark Beaumont Lured Back to Luss for Mid-Challenge Evening Event

World record breaking cyclist and adventurer Mark Beaumont will speak at a fund-raising evening in Luss next month, half way through what is set to be one of the biggest challenges of his life.

An evening with Mark Beaumont is on Wednesday 5th June at the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel, Luss. Tickets are £20 per person (including 2 course buffet) and may be purchased from the hotel directly by phone on 01436 860 420.

Throughout June, Mark will give his trusted bike a rest as he swims and runs the breadth of Scotland in aid of the STV Appeal 2013, raising funds for children and young people affected by poverty. Following the scenic Highland Boundary Fault Line from the Isle of Arran to Stonehaven, before finishing in Aberdeen, Mark will endure ultra-marathons, mountain climbs and open water swimming along the 208 mile route.

Mark's final swim – across Loch Lomond from Luss to Strathcashell Point – is scheduled for Day 5 (Wednesday 5th June), the mid way point in the ten day challenge. Now, thanks to the team at the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel, Mark will return to Luss that evening to help raise yet more funds for STV Appeal 2013.

The award winning hotel has arranged an informal event at which Mark will be speaking. There will also be fund-raising fun, and organisers are hoping that everyone from cycling and outdoors enthusiasts to families and people wishing to the support the appeal will come along.

Valerie Jones, Events Manager at the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel, said: “We are thrilled that Mark has agreed to spend some time with us, particularly as it will be at the end of an exceptionally gruelling day and the mid point in his coast-to-coast journey. This will be a rare opportunity to hear Mark speak about his travels, adventures and, no doubt, about his progress thus far along the Highland Line. Proceeds from the evening will go to STV Appeal 2013. We are delighted to be able to support such a fantastic cause and one which makes a real difference to the lives of many thousands of children in Scotland.”

Mark Beaumont said: "A big thank you to the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel for getting behind me and for supporting the mammoth challenge I’m taking on for STV Appeal. It's fantastic to see communities getting involved and I need all the inspiration and motivation I can get! Together I hope we can raise as much as possible to help Scottish children who are living in poverty."

Elizabeth Partyka, deputy director of channels at STV, said: "The STV Appeal has been a great success in its first two years, raising £3.3 million for children and young people in Scotland affected by poverty. With the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel and a host of other local organisations and schools supporting Mark as he takes on this gigantic journey, we hope to make 2013 the best year yet. We would like to thank the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel for getting behind the STV Appeal and helping to raise funds and awareness for what is a truly worthy cause.”
