Luss General Store Celebrates its First Anniversary

In May last year the Luss General Store opened its doors with the aim of providing visitors to Luss with a quality retail outlet selling homeware and gifts, and supporting the village in its quest to become a recognised tourist destination with a variety of things for visitors to do and see.

As part of its ongoing commitment to support Scottish crafts, Luss General Store stocks over 50 small Scottish suppliers’ products - from the Borders to the Isle of Skye. These include handmade silver jewellery from Hannah Eccles, tea towels and gifts from Braw Scotland, ceramics from local brand Tom Butcher, and beautifully scented 100% soy wax candles from Isle of Skye Candle Company.  In addition it stocks well-known Scottish brands such as Arran Aromatics, Demijohn, Harris Tweed and Rowallan.

General Manager, Jan Williamson said:  “The first year of trading has surpassed our expectations.  Luss has three quarters of a million visitors a year and we have been delighted to attract many of them to the store.  We have listened to our customers and sourced items they have asked for, fine-tuning the stock to be a strong representation of beautiful gifts and food products that Scotland, and particularly the local area, has to offer.

“We launched a new website this month which will also have an online shopping option before Christmas.  This will enable overseas visitors from tour companies and cruise liners, who have a brief stopover in Luss, to purchase Scottish products from Luss General Store after they return home.  With the fantastic number of visitors that arrive in Luss over the summer we’ll be very busy until the autumn.  We’ll then be hosting Meet the Producers events, craft workshops in October and food tastings every weekend.”

As part of its 1st birthday celebrations Luss General Store has three events planned:

Michelle from Heather Hills Farm will be showcasing the benefits of honey in food, cosmetics, cream, candles and recipes.

To celebrate the first year of opening, Demijohn’s liquid deli has created a first birthday cocktail especially for the store.  Enjoy canapés and birthday cake too.

Jennifer from Arran Aromatics will be instore to offer product advice on their fragrances  and creams plus there’ll be give away goodies.

And of course with the imminent arrival of a Royal baby, Luss General Store has a selection of baby gifts and garments ready to launch, including 100% cashmere jackets and hats, angora lambswool rabbits from in West Lothian, nursery sets from Halcyon Days and Baby Feel Fresh from Arran Aromatics.

Notes to editors:

Luss General Store, situated in the picturesque village of Luss by Loch Lomond, offers a selection of gifts and home wares focussed around, although not exclusively, products with a Scottish heritage or provenance. The aim is to offer a unique collection of products, bringing together artisans and craftspeople under one retail umbrella.
