Love Loch Lomond Competition Winners Enjoy the Bonnie Banks
Scots couple Jeanette and Campbell Irving recently became the delighted winners of a two-night break in Luss at the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel, plus a cruise on Loch Lomond from Sweeney's Cruises, courtesy of Love Loch Lomond and Scots Magazine.
Competition winner Campbell wrote to Love Loch Lomond to thank us and to tell us about the couple's stay on Loch Lomond, which they enjoyed in early November. Many thanks to Campbell and Jeanette for sharing their memories of the trip with us in this guest blog post.
My wife Jeanette and I headed for Loch Lomond on Sunday 3rd November, under a beautiful clear blue sky. First, we had a leisurely walk in Balloch before we were welcomed aboard the “Silver Marlin” of Sweeney's Cruises at their boat yard in Balloch, by Captain Ed and Steven for a sail on the loch south of Inchmurrin; where we enjoyed the panoramic views as well as a documentary highlighting the history of the area. The scenery was magnificent with a splendid view of a snow-capped Ben Lomond.
A lunch-time walk followed, taking in the beauty of Luss village, where we bought very nice souvenirs at the glass blowing shop where we had a long chat with the owner from Islay, an island we visit every year. We then checked in to the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel in Luss; where we were given a warm welcome by Carol.
We were allocated the very spacious Buchanan room in the annexe which has a covered walkway connecting to the main hotel and restaurant. Our accommodation (with convenient car parking) was well appointed, with sumptuous bath sheets, toiletries, crisp percale bed linen and a luxurious duck down and feather duvet.
Dinner was courteously served by Ursula and James in front of a blazing log fire in a cosy dining room. My wife Jeanette made an excellent dining choice of Cullen Skink soup, followed by a main of braised venison casserole with herb dumplings, Juniper & orange, and mashed potatoes; then rounded off by Eton Mess for dessert.
To start with I chose French toast with Brie and bacon, followed by a main of roast shoulder of lamb with seasonal vegetables and roast potatoes, ending on a high with a dessert of ice cream and butterscotch sauce.
The following day, again in glorious sunshine, we headed to Ardlui to explore Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park which has leisure facilities for families, climbers & walkers and watersports enthusiasts; and the opportunity to see rare birds and wildlife, ending the day with a visit to Loch Lomond Shores retail complex at Balloch for some shopping.
We will head back to the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond in the near future!
