Fun for All the Family at Helensburgh Summer Festival 2017

The Helensburgh Summer Festival is back in town on Saturday 12 August 2017, promising to be a great day out for all the family.

Organised by Helensburgh and Lomond Chamber of Commerce, the Summer Festival coincides with the Helensburgh Farmers Market, which on this occasion will feature up to 70 stalls offering crafts and gifts as well as artisan food and local produce.

The market will occupy the upper part of Colquhoun Square, while a small number of traders, such as the street-food sellers, will be located in the bottom half of the square, along with a wide range of entertainment.

This will include a Victorian Chair o’plane ride, a striker kids’ strength test, and bouncy castles, with musical accompaniment from HMS Neptune Volunteer Band. The Ministry of Defence Police search dog team will stage a display in the square at around midday.

Local guided walks will be available throughout the day from historian Stewart Noble. Locals and visitors alike can enjoy two walks in the morning, each starting at 10.30am. One will depart from outside the Hill House and will bring people down to the town centre, while the other will be a town centre walk, departing from outside Helensburgh Parish Church. Another town centre walk will depart at 2pm, departing from outside Helensburgh Parish Church.

Peninsula Trikes will be offering trike rides around the town, and on the seafront the MoD bomb squad will be in position at the Pierhead demonstrating their robot equipment, while volunteer sailors will be racing the “dunk tank”.

Just down Colquhoun Street, in the car park behind Wilkies Store, there will be a walk on water hamster ball attraction and Peninsular Trikes will be offering trike rides around the town. Children can enjoy a teacup ride, climbing wall and more outdoor activities.

Scottish food and drink producers featuring in the Farmers’ Market include McQueen Gin, Townhead Farm and Cedar Cottage Country Foods.
