Discover What's On Your Doorstep in The Great Outdoors Festival

The Great Outdoors Festival launches on Saturday 30th August and runs until Sunday 7th September.

The festival offers a packed programme of outdoor events and activities covering East and West Dunbartonshire, the Campsies and The Kilpatricks, for all ages and abilities. Many are free but need to be booked in advance - see details below.

Download or browse the programme.

It’s a great chance to get out and discover what’s on your doorstep in the natural world, learn new skills and try new activities.  Try your hand at survival skills, scavenging, fire and shelter workshops or enjoy a tour of Mugdock Castle and get into the tower for a great view from the top!

There is trail cycling for beginners, a “Daunder up the Dumpling” – the chance to climb Duncryne Hill at Gartocharn – or the opportunity to discover the RSPB Reserve at Loch Lomond. You might like to listen to live music, watch films or help do a bat count in Balloch Park – just some of the events on offer.

Walking, paddling or riding, as part of a group is fun and a great way to explore the countryside. Experienced leaders guide all of the Festival’s events so there is no need to worry about getting lost.

The event leaders are knowledgeable in local history and wildlife and will be glad to highlight the many points of interest along the routes.

How to Book

Most events must be booked in advance as there are a limited number of spaces available on each.  Some of the events require the payment of a booking fee.
