Argyll Crafts and Design to Showcase in New Luss General Store

Arts and crafts from across Argyll are to be showcased by a new enterprise in the Loch Lomond-side village of Luss.

Luss General Store opened its doors recently following a £200,000 investment by landowner Luss Estates Company, creating at least five new jobs and enhancing the position of Luss, Loch Lomond, as a must-visit high quality destination.

As well as significantly upgrading one of the village’s most recognisable and historic buildings, the shop will support local crafts, with an eclectic mix of unique, inspiring and affordable items selected for discerning tourists and local gift shoppers alike.

Luss General Store is the latest investment by Luss Estates Company which last year published a detailed Strategic Development Framework for the long term sustainability and economic prosperity of the area. It also follows the Estate’s £3.2million transformation and launch of the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel in 2012.

Sir Malcolm Colquhoun of Luss Bt, Chairman of Luss Estates Company, said:

“Luss General Store is another step in building the economic prosperity of our local community. I am delighted that it has opened in time for the summer, and look forward to seeing it grow and develop into a significant contributor to the re-emergence of Luss as a high quality year-round destination.”

Amongst the arts and crafts business set to feature at Luss General Store are Cardross based Wee Coo Company which specialise in hand-carved highland cows and woodland animals; glass designers Glittering Trinkets of Garelochhead, and renowned ethical toiletries manufacturer Lomond Soaps, also of Cardross. Luss General Store will also bring to Scotland a number of exclusive items from elsewhere in Britain, including specially commissioned handmade mugs by Royal College of Art graduate Julian Dowson.

Luss General Store Manager Jan Williamson added:

“I am delighted to be part of this exciting new enterprise here in Luss. Scotland has a wealth of craftspeople and we are looking forward to introducing their beautiful, inspiring products to the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit Luss every year, as well as to local people shopping for gifts, whatever the occasion.”

Luss General Store is located on Pier Road, Luss, Loch Lomond and is open seven days a week.
